Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as a CBC walk:

Saturday 23 April - Rendezvous Creek - M/E-M. In town for Easter? Fancy a stroll up Rendezvous Creek? A pleasant ramble along the Rendezvous Creek Track, then along the old vehicle track to Rowleys Rendezvous Creek hut site and nearby yards. A little further up the creek to visit a nearby site. Return the way we came in. Around 12km and 200m climb. Map: Rendezvous Creek. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. Transport: ~$10 per person.

16 of us gathered at Bunnings in Tuggeranong and drove in 4 cars to the (new) Rendezvous Creek Walk car park, on the right of the road just before crossing Rendezvous Creek.

Returning a favour to Barbara M. Ground-truth KHA 758 Trackhead (Rendezvous Creek) at its new location.

Don't forget Tharwa bridge closed till 25 June.

Track

A simple ramble on a lovely Autumn day.

From the car park, along the benched track to cross Rendezvous Creek via the steel mesh bridge. A little frost in the shade here. Up to the grand bush table and benches. I picked a piece of shrub, which I was sure I recognised, later to be confirmed by Philip, from Above the Cotter p 116 and Google, as Alpine Lomatia (Lomatia myricoides). From here, across through the grasses to the distant marker posts leading to the old vehicle track. Plenty of kangaroos. A pleasant jaunt with plenty of chatting to Rowleys Rendezvous Creek hut site for morning tea, via one of the tyres marking the edge of the landing ground (shown on the 1st edn Rendezvous Creek 1:25000 topo map).

Down towards the creek to the stockyards, then back SW to rejoin the old vehicle track taking us further up the valley. After a while we headed SW onto the lower flanks of the Mavis ridge, then returned for lunch.

We came home along the same old vehicle track, except that towards the end we continued along it and came out at the old car park (now blocked off with stones). A wedge-tailed eagle soaring. Down the Boboyan Road, we returned to the cars via another nearby site.

A great party of Alison M, Barbara M, Helen L, Jan G, Kevin T, Lachlan M, Llewellyn S-P, Louise M, Lyn C, Olaf S, Peter A, Peter McC, Philip G, Russell H and Therese P. I think a good day was had by all.

Distance: 13.2km Climb: 150m. Time: 9.30am - 2.25pm (call it 5hrs), with 45mins of stops.
Grading: M/E-M; M(8)
